I am extremely pleased to be
associated with the induction ceremony of the Rotary Club of Grand Turk
at this juncture.
The initial Rotary Community Corps was established on April 27th, 2002
with 15 members. Since then, the Corps has grown from strength to
strength. This is attributed to the hard work, perseverance, and
dedication of its members.
The establishment of a Rotary Club on Grand Turk was conceived by Past
President Armin Thiele. After I was transferred from Providenciales to
Grand Turk in 2001, PP Armin approached me and discussed the possibility
of establishing a Rotary Club on Grand Turk, and asked me to initiate
the process of establishing a Rotary club on Grand Turk. As a true
Rotarian, I accepted the challenge and proceeded to invite several
members of the business and professional community to join the club.
At this point in time, due to circumstances beyond my control, I was
unable to muster the minimum amount of persons required to establish a
Rotary Club. I did not allow the situation to deter me. Consequently, I
consulted PP Armin and we decided at this point, it was more feasible to
establish a Rotary Corps, since the requirements were less stringent,
until such time, when we were able to attract the requisite amount of
members required by Rotary International to establish a Rotary Club.
This evening, I proud to say our efforts yielded positive results, we
realize our aspiration and by extension, one of Rotary International
requirements. As we proceed to join the Rotary Clubs that comprise
District 7020 family, I would like to take this opportunity to
congratulate Charter President Joe, his board, and members for a job
well done.
