CHARTER MESSAGES

HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR Richard Tauwhare, MVO - honorary member

It is my distinct honour to extend words of congratulations and praise to President Joseph Swann, the Board, and the Members of the Rotary Club of Grand Turk on the occasion of their charter into Rotary International District 7020.

I embrace this opportunity to acknowledge Mr. Swann’s and the previous Rotary Community Corp’s years of dedicated service to the island of Grand Turk.

It is for this reason that I further express gratitude, and encouragement of continued outstanding contribution through community service. Therefore, I urge you to remain steadfast and continue in the way of truth, fairness, building good will and better friendships, and always ensure that the communities which are helped benefit from your service.

Mr. Swann, your presidency is testimony of your Club’s dedicated community service. You have made substantial contributions to the welfare and progress of the Turks and Caicos Islands, starting home, here in Grand Turk. Your efforts have contributed tremendously towards nation building. I am truly grateful to be an Honorary Member, and more so, to be associated with this the Rotary of Club of Grand Turk.

You had a plan, pursued it passionately, and kept focused on the desired outcome. This evening you are reaping amazing results – Charter, your gateway to continuous high quality service.

I extend my sincerest congratulations.

Richard Tauwhare, MVO
GOVERNOR
Turks and Caicos Islands

HONOURABLE CHIEF SECRETARY MAHALA WYNNS - honorary member

I greet you warmly and sincerely as you are gathered for your Charter Ceremony Programme.

In times like these, it is always important to reflect on your club as a whole and on yourselves as part of the club to assess how far you have come in achieving your goals and objectives.

As it is reflected in your Charter, the main thrust of Rotary is 'service.' More and more, as our societies change socially and economically, the need for community service has increased.

Rotarians are united in their desire to make a difference for the residents of our communities in their various areas of need be it welfare and social issues, education, human rights or making recommendations for the revision of policies affecting the rights of individuals.

My hope is that, as Rotarians, you remain committed to your service goals thereby enhancing the quality of life for the citizens in our communities and society. May the name 'Rotary' become synonymous with 'service' as you strive to make the Turks and Caicos Islands and the world a better place for everyone.

May you continue to experience God's richest blessings?

Mahala Wynns
CHIEF SECRETARY
Turks and Caicos Islands

Rotary International President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar

Dear Fellow Rotarians

It was Past RI President Jonathan Majiyagbe who emphasized the importance of the family of Rotary by creating the Family of Rotary Task Force, continued the following year by 2004-05 RI President Glenn E. Estess Sr. These two gentlemen also urged clubs and districts to start family of Rotary committees. This year, I have discontinued the task force because I feel it has achieved its mission – clubs and districts all over the world have created family of Rotary committees. For those that have not, it is never too late.

It may be worth giving some thought to the question: Just what is the family of Rotary? Of course, each Rotarian has a personal family. Some of these families are very heavily involved in Rotary service, while others are not. This may be for cultural or local reasons. The decision to support Rotary is really up to the individuals and is not something that Rotary International can force upon anybody.

But the family of Rotary can be more than a single family unit. It can represent many aspects of the organization. The RI Board is part of the family of Rotary International. So is each district as well as each club. Each Group Study Exchange team is part of the family of Rotary. So are our Rotaractors and Interactors and our Youth Exchange students studying abroad. Our RI training leaders and all our committees and resource groups form various parts of the family of Rotary. Finally, The Rotary Foundation is a large and important part of our family of Rotary.

It is important that we care about the family of Rotary. It helps us in our work and it creates fellowship and friendship – two of the cornerstones on which Rotary International has been built.

Even though the Family of Rotary Task Force no longer exists, its spirit is very much alive and sound. I urge all those districts and clubs that have not created a family of Rotary committee to start one during the month of December, which is Family Month. By doing so, we honor our commitment to Service Above Self and continue to show the world the great leadership of Rotary International.

Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar
President,
Rotary International

Rotary 7020 DISTRICT GOVERNOR Thomas Lightbourne

Congratulations!

It is with great pride that I welcome you into the wonderful family of Rotary.

Congratulations are indeed in order, for all of you and especially those of you who help to initiate the effort several years ago. At last, our dream of a bonafide club have been achieved.

My apologies for not being there, and I do regret missing this Grand occasion. However, as DG, I do have other duties to perform, and this schedule clashed with some of my other duties, hence our most able Assistant District Governor Micky, will do the honors on my behalf. Please give her all due respect, accorded a District Governor, not only because she is representing me, but because she too kept this project close to her heart, and has done more than any other single individual to bring you this far in your Rotary journey.

The Rotary Club of Providenciales will always be there for you, and we wish you great success. While you seek to grow your organization and make it a force for good in your community, live the four way test, and there by you will achieve the highest ideals of Rotary for which we all stand.

Welcome to the world of Service above self, and if you get weary, when you get weary, remember those of us who are worst off than yourselves, and if you bring light to the life of someone, it will also shine on you.

We will set a date soon when I will make an Official visit, until than do well.

Thomas Lightbourne
DISTRICT GOVERNOR

ASSISTANT DISTRICT GOVERNOR Micky M. Shoulak

I am extremely proud to take part in the induction of the Rotary Club of Grand Turk. This Charter marks another milestone in Rotary’s progress here in the Turks and Caicos Islands. This induction not only marks the new chartering of the Rotary Club of Grand Turk, but also the beginning of the tenth anniversary of Rotary in the Turks and Caicos Islands and our District 7020 Conference.

It will be with motherly pride that I will watch all my friends of the Grand Turk Rotary Club be inducted as charter members of their club. The Rotary Club of Grand Turk will join Rotarians in our district 7020, as well as Rotary world wide in exemplifying the motto ”Service Above Self”

On behalf of myself and the Rotary District 7020 Conference Committee I would like to congratulate the members of the Rotary Club of Grand Turk.

Yours in Rotary,

ADG Micky M. Shoulak
Conference Coordinator

Founding Father OF THE Rotary Club of Grand Turk Marc Henry

I am extremely pleased to be associated with the induction ceremony of the Rotary Club of Grand Turk at this juncture.

The initial Rotary Community Corps was established on April 27th, 2002 with 15 members. Since then, the Corps has grown from strength to strength. This is attributed to the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of its members.

The establishment of a Rotary Club on Grand Turk was conceived by Past President Armin Thiele. After I was transferred from Providenciales to Grand Turk in 2001, PP Armin approached me and discussed the possibility of establishing a Rotary Club on Grand Turk, and asked me to initiate the process of establishing a Rotary club on Grand Turk. As a true Rotarian, I accepted the challenge and proceeded to invite several members of the business and professional community to join the club.

At this point in time, due to circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to muster the minimum amount of persons required to establish a Rotary Club. I did not allow the situation to deter me. Consequently, I consulted PP Armin and we decided at this point, it was more feasible to establish a Rotary Corps, since the requirements were less stringent, until such time, when we were able to attract the requisite amount of members required by Rotary International to establish a Rotary Club.

This evening, I proud to say our efforts yielded positive results, we realize our aspiration and by extension, one of Rotary International requirements. As we proceed to join the Rotary Clubs that comprise District 7020 family, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Charter President Joe, his board, and members for a job well done.

The Rotary Club of Grand Turk is proud to be a member of the Premier Service Organization, with a membership of over 32,000 Rotary Clubs in 169 countries. Worldwide, there are more than 1.2 million Rotarians. All members share a belief in Rotary’s motto: “Service above Self.”

As an organization of business and professional people, Rotary provides humanitarian services both in our local communities and throughout the world. We promote high ethical standards in all vocations and seek to build peace through understanding, among the diverse peoples of the world.

The membership of our club is intentionally diverse, with active members representing different vocational classifications. The purpose of this classification principle is to promote acquaintances and understanding beyond one’s day-to-day business and professional relationships.

A wide variety of programs are conducted at our weekly luncheon meeting including speeches by government officials, scientists, and historians; presentations by charitable groups and international visitors; and demonstrations of all sorts. Some are serious and thought provoking, while others are light and humorous.

Our Club is more than just a service club. We are people bound together by common values and sense of service above self. We can’t help but feel like a family that way.

This year, my goal for the Club is to foster and strengthen:
    (1) Pride in being a Rotarian
    (2) Enthusiasm for Rotary and our work in Grand Turk and
    (3) Commitment to the Club, our fellow Rotarians, and our community as a whole.

I am proud to be associated with this great group of Rotarians and to be able to lead this Club during our Centennial year!

Come join us for fellowship, fun, and service.

Yours in Rotary,
